The CTRT approach is characterised by:
- A comprehensive understanding of the local context: Poverty is multifaceted and rooted in technical, economic and socio-political systems. Two approaches can be used to get the necessary insights: the livelihood approach and / or the value chain approach.
- Stakeholder participation: Real insight can only be obtained when both ‘facts’ and ‘opinions’ are taken into account. The perception and motivation of stakeholders are as important as technical-economic parameters, and vice-versa.
- Team work and clear communication: Using a comprehensive approach with the active participation of all stakeholders requires strong communication skills to facilitate the (group) learning- and change processes that are the foundation of any sustainable improvement.
